Row of old oaks only surviving trees in Marysville
A row of 16 oak trees planted in the 1840s on the main street is all that is left standing in the Victorian town of Marysville which was wiped off the map by recent bushfires.
Thomas Barton, the town’s founder planted one each to honour his 16 children – now that’s a lot of offspring. I guess the trees will be of even more historic significance if and when the town is rebuilt.
